I've lived on the Outer Banks (OBX) for my entire life and during that period there has always been talk of a "new bridge coming in the next year or two" - or three or four or five or fifteen. As of Nov. 14, 2016, the status of the Mid-Currituck Bridge is "In Development." I'm not sure of their definition of 'development,' but I assume it is something like, "We are still putting some serious thinking into this thing because 25+ years has not been enough.
